Are Eggs Causing Disease and Weight Gain?
February 28, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
I just read this newsletter from my colleague and friend Mike Geary and thought it was great information that everyone should know about.
There has been some confusion about this lately and he explains it very well.
———————————————————————————–
I was on a weekend trip with some friends recently and one of my friends was cooking breakfast for the whole group. I went over to see what he was cooking and saw he was getting ready to make a big batch of eggs.
Well, to my shock and horror, I noticed that he was cracking the eggs open and screening the egg whites into a bowl and throwing out the egg yolks. I asked him why the heck he was throwing out the egg yolks, and he replied…
"because I thought the egg yolks were terrible for you…that's where all the nasty fat and cholesterol is".
And I replied, "you mean that's where all the nutrition is!"
This is a perfect example of how confused most people are about nutrition.
In a world full of misinformation, somehow most people now mistakenly think that the egg yolk is the worst part of the egg, when in fact, the YOLK IS THE HEALTHIEST PART OF THE EGG!
By throwing out the yolk and only eating egg whites, you're essentially throwing out the most nutrient dense, antioxidant-rich, vitamin and mineral loaded portion of the egg. The yolks contain so many B-vitamins, trace minerals, vitamin A, folate, choline, lutein, and other powerful nutrients… it's not even worth trying to list them all.
In fact, the egg whites are almost devoid of nutrition compared to the yolk.
Even the protein in egg whites isn't as powerful without the yolks to balance out the amino acid profile and make the protein more bio-available.
Not to even mention that the egg yolks from free range chickens are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids.
Yolks contain more than 90% of the calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, thiamin, B6, folate, and B12, and panthothenic acid of the egg. In addition, the yolks contain all of the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K in the egg, as well as all of the essential fatty acids.
And now the common objection I get all the time when I say that the yolks are the most nutritious part of the egg…
"But I heard that whole eggs will skyrocket my cholesterol through the roof"
No, this is FALSE!
First of all, when you eat a food that contains a high amount of dietary cholesterol such as eggs, your body down-regulates it's internal production of cholesterol to balance things out.
On the other hand, if you don't eat enough cholesterol, your body simply produces more since cholesterol has tons of important functions in the body.
And here's where it gets even more interesting…
There are indications that eating whole eggs actually raises your good HDL cholesterol to a higher degree than LDL cholesterol, thereby improving your overall cholesterol ratio and blood chemistry.
And 3rd… high cholesterol is NOT a disease! Heart disease is a disease…but high cholesterol is NOT.
So I hope we've established that whole eggs are not some evil food that will wreck your body… instead whole eggs are FAR superior to egg whites.
Also, your normal supermarket eggs coming from mass factory farming just don't compare nutritionally with organic free range eggs from healthy chickens that are allowed to roam freely and eat a more natural diet.
I recently compared eggs I bought at the grocery store with a batch of eggs I got at a farm stand where the chickens were free roaming and healthy.
Most people don't realize that there's a major difference because they've never bought real eggs from healthy chickens… The eggs from the grocery store had pale yellow yolks. On the other hand, the healthier free range eggs had deep orange colored yolks indicating much higher nutrition levels and carotenoids.
So next time a health or fitness professional tells you that egg whites are superior, you can quietly ignore their advice knowing that you understand the REAL deal about egg yolks.
One more thing about eggs…
I read a study recently that compared groups of people that ate egg breakfasts vs groups of people that ate cereal or bagel based breakfasts.
The results of the study showed that the egg eaters lost or maintained a healthier bodyweight, while the cereal/bagel eaters gained weight.
It was hypothesized that the egg eaters actually ate less calories during the remainder of the day because their appetite was more satisfied compared to the cereal/bagel eaters who would have been more prone to wild blood sugar swings and food cravings.

Obese People Had to Dramatically Alter Their Diets and Exercise
February 26, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
This was the summary of a study conducted by the researchers at the National Weight Control Registry.
It stated that obese people who lost weight had to dramatically alter their diets and exercise to keep from gaining back the weight.
It says that this contradicts other experts who contended that only small lifestyle changes were required to keep weight off.
This is a perfect example of taking information and turning it around or leaving out important pieces of information so that you don't know the entire story.
First off those that are obese are usually that way because of very bad eating or non-exercise habits. So yes, you would have to dramatically make some changes to lose the weight and keep it off. That is common sense.
If you were only 10 pounds overweight you would only have to make small lifestyle changes to lose the weight and keep it off.
This is just like my sinus infection I got thanks to these Midwest United States winters. Due to small changes in my sanitizing efforts I have only gotten a bad cold once, which is now. Even though the hospitals around here have been slammed for over a month and they are calling this one of the worst winter seasons for illness on record.
If I was sick all the time like many in this area of the United States I would have to make dramatic changes to keep from getting sick.
It is real simple. You have to make changes to prevent weight gain or whatever you want changed including illness.
Whether those changes are dramatic or not depends on your lifestyle and how you live. Weight loss takes hard work and effort. If you don't want to put in the time and effort then I have to say that you will most likely never lose weight.
This is why I laid out exactly how you should be eating for successful weight loss in the Dress Size Reduction Diet. It is now up to you to read it and decide if you will be making dramatic changes or small changes to be successful.
Either way you follow the steps that are laid out in the Dress Size Reduction Diet and you will be successful in losing weight fast and reaching your goals.

Belly Fat Transformation Week 3
February 25, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
I had given you a brief update on Friday of what our last week was like. Well, Liane is much better and should be able to exercise this week, but I am fighting off a sinus infection now as well.
I think I need to go through my house today and disinfect everything I can and try to rid our house of germs.
I have been lucky this winter and have fought off everything Liane and our daughter have caught, but I am a little worrisome about this one. It hit me pretty good yesterday and today so I will be spending the rest of today resting and working to fight off this infection.
Though we did do our measurements yesterday and I have the results for you.
Liane continued to lose from her waistline, which is the reason why we are doing this belly fat transformation.
She lost another 3/4 of an inch from her abdomen and 1/8 from her waist. Her weight stayed the same this week, but she did lose circumference, which is the most important. Her whole goal is to build lean body mass and lose the extra baby fat from her waistline
so we don't expect her weight to drop much more than it has. We do expect to see her waistline continue to shrink.
She should be able to get back into working out this week and burning more calories.
As for me I have the same goals as Liane. I am looking to add lean body mass, but get my six-pack abs back. For those that have lost weight before you know that losing those last few pounds is the most difficult because your body fights to keep it. It does this
because it wants a safety buffer in there in case it ever needs emergency calories.
That is why it is always easier for those very over weight to lose weight quickly, but once they get to the final 5-10 pounds it becomes increasingly difficult.
My bodyweight stayed the same this week, which is good because that means I am building lean body mass. My abdomen dropped 3/4 of an inch and my waistline dropped 1 3/4". Given my body type my fat is right at my love handles and belly button. This means I expect my waistline to continue to see decreasing numbers and my abdomen should slow down because that is primarily muscle.
When it comes to losing weight there is never a perfect time. As you can see with us fighting illness. Though we don't get down about it. We just keep moving forward even if those steps are small. As long as we are moving forward there will be progress and we will have those days and weeks where we are healthy, eat great and workout hard. We just have to fight through the adversity (blowing our nose every 3 minutes
) and push forward.
This is why you should have a plan and map out what you are going to be doing each week. This is what is keeping us on track even though we don't feel good. We don't have to think about what we are going to do next. We just look at our plan and follow it.

Why High Protein, Low Fat, Low Carbohydrate Diets Help You Lose Weight Fast
February 20, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
A new study soon to be released in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism sheds some light on why some diets promote weight loss better than others.
There is only one known appetite stimulate hormone and it is called ghrelin. Ghrelin levels increase shortly before meals and decrease promptly after ingestion of meals.
This study looked at what different nutrient ratio diets suppressed the appetite stimulation hormone ghrelin the longest.
What they found was that when fat was consumed ghrelin levels remained relatively high during and after the meal, which in turn could stimulate more hunger and lead to more food consumption.
When carbohydrates were consumed the ghrelin level dropped significantly after the meal, but returned shortly there after much higher than the normal baseline level. This could explain why many when they eat primarily carbohydrates for a meal are satisfied at first, but then hungry again 30 minutes later.
I know this happens to me when I eat popcorn. It tastes great and is filling at first, but about 30 minutes after eating it I am hungry if not hungrier than I was before I ate the popcorn.
The study found that protein provided the greatest suppression of ghrelin over a longer period of time. This also explains why you tend to feel fuller for a longer period of time when you consume lean protein at your meals.
The next time you want to eat that all pasta meal think about how your body is going to react to it. Instead cut down on the pasta and incorporate lean protein along with fibrous vegetables to not only [tag]lose weight fast[/tag], but be healthier.
You also get the benefit of the fat burning properties that protein and fiber provide which are all explained in the latest Dress Size Reduction Diet Program. It is specifically designed to increase your fat burning potential and control your appetite stimulating ghrelin hormone levels.
