I wanted to make sure that everyone read this today because there are millions of women that are overweight and millions that have Asthma.  A study recently released noted that obesity can worsen the impact of asthma and actually mask the severity of it in standard tests.

This is a rather new discovery, but a very important discovery to determine just how impacting obesity can be to those with asthma.

Click the link below for the full story of the research study.

6 pack abs mindset

My mother used to be friends with this woman named Elaine.

And every so often I would ask my mom what diet Elaine was on now. Because it was always something.

It was the Ice Cream Diet one day. The Grapefruit Diet the next.

Yes, just like every serial dieter you know, Elaine too was always overweight.

She was always looking for the next quick fix. Always wanting to find a way to magically defy the way the human body works and lose weight the "easy way."

Which is really kind of strange because there wasn't anything easy about what she was doing.

Elaine was constantly starving herself. Constantly depriving herself of food. Constantly depriving her body and fat burning metabolism of the nutrients it craved.

I like to keep these newsletters short and sweet, so the message today is really simple:

Don't be like Elaine.

Eat right, exercise and educate yourself. That's what I call the Triple-E formula for success.

My Dress Size Reduction Diet program is a blueprint based on science. NOT marketing BS.

The blueprint is proven. You only need to follow it instead of CHASING a dream like she was.

A dream that - based on how the human body truly functions - will never come true.

I know you can do it!

PS - 25 vegetables, fruits and greens in pill form for an incredible nutritional boost. That's what my VGF 25+ product is all about. If you're looking for the absolute best in nutrition check out

"The VGF+25 for Women is the most amazing, life changing supplement I've come across. Not only have I experienced the immediate benefits of stronger nails but I have also noticed a tremendous difference in my mood and energy levels. I now find that I enjoy waking up in the morning and I no longer encounter the mid-afternoon drag. I have also noticed a decrease in cravings. In the past when I tried to go a whole 5 days "eating clean", it seemed my cravings would always get the best of me. Now, it is rare that I desire the junk food.

I can honestly attribute VGF+25 for Women to a significant decrease in my mood swings. Averaging about 2 breakdowns a month, you can imagine that my husband was pleasantly surprised. When I asked him to recall my last incident….he was stupmed (and this NEVER happens). So I cannot begin to describe how the use of this supplement has indirectly improved my relationships.

It may sound strange, but I seem to have an overall sense of well being. I feel confident that I have achiveed a higher level of health by supporting my eating and exercise habits with the help of my VGF+25's. Who wouldn't want to feel this healthy, vibrant and alive?"

Is this hormone making you fat?

I took Liane and our daughter Hailey camping this weekend for a little Mother's Day getaway.

We had a great time as a family except for the severe storm in the middle of the night on Saturday.

Hailey of course slept through the whole thing while Liane and I laid there staring at the ceiling of our camper listening to the hail and 50 mph winds.

Oddly enough the storm reminded me of something important I've been meaning to write you about, so I got up and made a quick note to teach you about a very important hormone that may be making you fat.

You see, when it comes to nutrition your body reacts in certain ways to the amount of calories you feed it.

When you follow a fad diet plan that has you eating low calorie pre-made foods, or severly restricting your calories by eating only 3 meals per day, there is an action that takes place in your body.

It causes your body to elevate levels of the hormone Lipoprotein Lipase.

The research has shown this is the hormone which causes your body to slow down the speed of your metabolism.

In other words, it's the hormone which keeps you from burning fat. Instead it KEEPS it on your body.

It's very counterintuitive and I've seen people really struggle with this, but if you really want your body to melt fat off your frame as fast as possible you need to feed it MORE of the right nutrients. NOT less.

That's why my Dress Size Reduction Diet program isn't the typical diet you're used to. Far from it.

It teaches you how to eat the correct nutrients in the correct amounts so you never have to worry about Lipoprotein Lipase keeping you overweight.

I know you can do it!

Yours in health,

Jayson Hunter RD, CSCS

Fat Loss Numbers Don't Lie

This weekend I had a very interesting conversation with one of the strongest men in the world - literally.

My buddy AJ Roberts is an insanely strong power lifter and amazing personal trainer.

He can help you get strong as a bull or lean and mean for bathing suit season.

AJ has a problem that many personal trainers face. He just can't get some of his clients to come to grips with the fact what the scale says just doesn't matter.

Recently his client who is making phenomenal progress came to him and unleashed a torrent of complaints about her weight.

"The scale's not moving", she said.

AJ replied, "Ok, but are your clothes fitting better?"

"Yes."

"Have you lost inches", AJ asked.

"Quite a few", was the answer.

"So what exactly is the problem", AJ wanted to know.

That's where the disconnect is. People are told by these diet centers - and you know exactly the ones I'm talking about - that your weight is what matters.

It's the reason they won't recommend strength training.

Yes, they know your body will melt fat FAST from the increase in your metabolism.

BUT…

They also know your body composition is going to change. And due to the fact you're going to have more lean tissue - FAT BURNING TISSUE - your weight might stay the same.

Never mind you're healthier.

Never mind you're leaner.

Never mind you've gotten rid of the fat on your body.

Never mind you're stronger.

Never mind you look better naked.

Never mind your clothes fit better.

These people only want you to look at the scale because they don't want you to know the true story.

They don't want you to know your body fat numbers.

They don't want you to look at the increase in lean, metabolically active, fat fighting tissue as a good thing.

Don't let them constantly lie to you.

Don't let then keep you in the dark.

Throw out that damn scale or smash it into bits.

Trust me, the truth tastes a whole lot better than those pre-packaged cardboard meals everyone's trying to sell you.

More to come.

Yours in health,

Jayson Hunter, RD, CSCS

I am writing this newsletter real quick Monday evening because I finally got my daughter to take a decent nap.  She has been home with me today because she has a slight fever, which we think and hope is due to teething.

You see our daughter is 13 months old and doesn't have any teeth yet.  We do know that she can get a low grade fever, become irritablle, uncomfortable and have diarrhea.

Well, guess what.  She has all of that and then some.  The frustrating thing is she can't tell us what is wrong.  All she can do is lay her head on my lap and cry or moan and be held.

I drove her around for 1.5 hours today just so she could take a decent nap.  I will make sure she knows how expensive that nap was at $3.75 for a gallon of gas.  :)

So what does this have to do with you losing weight.

Well, like I mentioned she can't communicate her frustrations, pain and problems that she is having.  She can only cry.

You as an adult can communicate, but most of you don't.

Why is that?

I sometimes think that when you are losing weight you want to keep it a secret because you are embarrased or if you fail then no one has to know about it and make you feel guilty for failing.

Well, if those are your reasons for not telling anyone you couldn't be more wrong.

Enlisting the help of others allows you to vent, ask for help, get ideas from others and learn.

We all know that there isn't a magic pill or solution.  Weight loss takes hard work and effort.

There will be frustrations along the way.  Instead of keeping them a secret let someone know about them and let them help.  If they could help you solve the frustration in one day wouldn't that be worth it rather then getting more frustrated day after day and eventually giving up?

Don't be afraid to ask for help and guidance.

That is one of the reasons why I have this blog.

It is for you to learn as well as communicate with others so that you can help each other.  Group weight loss programs are successful because of the power of the group.  Take advantage of this and communicate.

Also, communicate your successes and help motivate others that may need to read that it can be done and they can succeed.

Yours in health!

PS:  Read below to understand the power of telling others.  This grandmother told her family and now the entire family is eating better and helping each other.  Not only has the program helped 1 grandmother, but also her 5 daughters and 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  Make sure you read this sentence from below.  "We are now more connected to being healthy with each other thanks to you".  This is the power of a group.

"I have lost 14 inches and 21 lbs. overall and two complete dress sizes!!!

I am not so winded after climbing stairs, I sleep better at night, my old age aches and pains are not so noticable to me, and I smile much more often now. I wish I had met you years ago. Yours is the only diet program I have ever read that included food that I actually like. Which is why I tried yours in the first place. Other diets are basically the same; cardboard for breakfast, plastic for lunch and a few shrubs and weeds for dinner (only kidding). But yours included foods I like to eat and if I want to eat the same breakfast every day for a week, I do, but you give me more choices and I am not limited to fish and vegetables that I don't like.

I am a 61 year old great grandmother who has 5 daughters and 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and my only motivation was to get out of bed and go back to bed every day until I was introduced to you. You have become family to myself and my family. We are now more connected to being healthy with each other thanks to you

Thanks so much for your encouragement, your interest in helping us, and your concern about how we are doing. I never expected that. I am very pleased I started all of this with you and I am talking others into joining as well.

God Bless you, Jayson, for your caring and concern."

Do You Overeat? (Part 2)

One of the key ways to maintain a healthy weight is to control your portion sizes. Research has shown that Americans often underestimate how many calories they are consuming each day by as much as 25%.

It’s not enough to eat the right kinds of food to maintain a healthy weight. Eating the right amount of food at each meal is just as important. A portion size is a specific amount of food, and it might be smaller than you realize.

How to Estimate Portion Sizes:

Estimating portion sizes is rather easy once you learn what a proper portion size looks like.  Read below to see visual example of what a proper portion size should look like.

Do you have an idea what 1 ounce looks like?  How about what a “serving” of fish or chicken is?  Here are some simple tools to assess portion sizes without carrying a food scale around on a daily basis.

  • Meat, poultry, or fish such as tuna or salmon steaks (3 oz) is the size of a deck of cards
  • Thin white fish, such as flounder or sole (3 oz) is approximately the size of a checkbook
  • Cold cereal, berries, popcorn (1 cup) is  approximately the size of a baseball
  • Butter or margarine (1 tsp) is approximately the size of a postage stamp
  • Bread (1 ounce) is approximately the size of a CD case
  • Hard cheese (1 ounce) is approximately  the size of 4 dice
  • Mixed nuts, dried fruit, granola, almonds,  walnuts, peanuts (1/4 cup)

Knowing what equals a portion size is only one step–if you are eating 5 portions of bread when you should only be eating 3, for example, then you won’t see any body composition changes.

This is why learning behavior modification through goal setting and planning is essential to long term nutritional changes.

The Dress Size Reduction Diet program teaches you how to properly control your portions so that you can see fast easy weight loss.

Dress Size Reduction Diet

"I just want to say Thank You for the Dress Size Reduction Diet - it is exactly what I needed! The carb reduction days are easy and I feel like I am full and really satisfied all the time.Right now I am on day 9 and I feel soooo much better already. My belly flab is melting and I feel 'smoother'. I have already noticed my clothes feeling looser, I am easily pulling my size 8's on and can tell I will be slipping back into those 6's very soon. I can't wait to see what the entire 30 days will let me accomplish! I also want to add that I chose to upgrade to the package that included the 30 Day Meal Plan….what a Perfect Plan! It doesn't get any simpler than that!

Thanks again - this is a great plan….worth every penny!!"

Do You Overeat?

This is part 1 of a 2 part series.

What happened to our parents putting the proper portions on our plates and telling us to finish everything on our plate?

This practice was fine when the dinner plates were smaller and the entire surface wasn’t covered with food.  Now dinner plates seem to be 1.5 times larger and we fill the entire plate with food rather than have our distinct portions.

The second problem America faces is the challenge of changing our eating habits for the better.  We tend to diet and restrict calories to lose the weight, but really don’t learn how to eat properly.

When we stop dieting we revert back to our same bad habits.  This is where behavior modifications and following proper portion control becomes vital.

Behavior modification is the practice of changing ones habits permanently.  It isn’t a quick fix but rather a series of changes that take place regularly to form a habit.

Just like we develop bad habits by consistently doing something we shouldn’t, good habits are formed the same way.

The best way to learn behavior modification is to make small changes in increments and then build on those changes by adding others.  You should meet each goal before moving on to the next goal.

You may also have to come up with different ways or ideas to meet that goal.  Each person responds differently and learns differently so take the time to sit down and find out what you do well and what you do poorly.

I use a behavior modification goal sheet in my counseling.  I make my clients sign these behavior contracts at the end of every session.  The contract contains the goals you are going to working on for the next week.

In part 2 I will discuss just what portion control is and how you can follow it.

Yours in health!

Research has found that people who ate breakfast every day were a third less likely to be obese compared to those who skipped the meal.

In addition, the subjects were half as likely to have blood-sugar problems, which increase the risk of developing diabetes or having high cholesterol, which is a known risk factor for heart disease.

"Breakfast may really be the most important meal of the day" Dr Mark Pereira

Researchers believe that eating first thing in the morning may help to stabilize blood sugar levels, which regulate appetite and energy.

They suggest people who eat breakfast are less likely to be hungry during the rest of the day and are, therefore, less likely to overeat.

"Our results suggest that breakfast may really be the most important meal of the day," said Dr Periera.

"It appears that breakfast may play an important role in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease."

The researchers have recently started to examine what those involved in the study ate for breakfast, to see if certain foods were more likely to help them stay healthy.

Initial results have suggested that whole-grain cereals may be of benefit.

They found that people who ate these were 15% less likely to have blood sugar problems but Dr Pereira said: "We need to do more research."

"People skip breakfast thinking they're cutting calories, but by mid-morning and lunch, that person is starved," says Milton Stokes, RD, MPH, chief dietitian for St. Barnabas Hospital in New York City. "Breakfast skippers replace calories during the day with mindless nibbling, bingeing at lunch and dinner. They set themselves up for failure."

So what is the moral of the story for today?

Eat your breakfast.  This could be whole grains, hard boiled egg, whole grain cereals, cottage cheese, yogurt. peanut butter, fruits and vegetables.

Or if you just don't have time to eat anything then I recommend http://professionalgradenutrition.com/lean.

Lean gives you all the nutrients you need in a filling healthy drink.  At 8gms of fiber and 35gms of protein per serving you won't feel hungry in 30 minutes like most meal replacement shakes since both nutrients provide great hunger control.
